Lead Carpenter
"Run the carpentry crew. Set the standard. Build exteriors that last."
The Role
As a Lead Carpenter at Veterans Roofing, you'll run the carpentry side of our exterior projects — framing, trim, fascia, siding substrates, window and door openings, and the detail work that separates a clean install from a sloppy one. You'll read the plans, lay out the work, direct a support carpenter or two, and own the quality of everything your crew touches. This is a working lead role: you're on the tools and leading at the same time. We're looking for someone with real exterior carpentry chops who takes pride in craftsmanship and can keep a small crew moving efficiently on South Jersey job sites.
What You'll Do
- Read blueprints, shop drawings, and project specs to lay out carpentry work and assign tasks to support carpenters
- Lead a small carpentry crew on exterior projects — framing, sheathing, fascia, soffit, rake boards, window and door openings, and siding substrates
- Perform layout, cutting, and installation of wood and composite exterior components to precise measurements
- Verify material lead times and purchase orders to keep the schedule moving without field delays
- Set and enforce quality and safety standards on-site, coaching less-experienced carpenters in real time
- Coordinate with the Project Supervisor and production team on sequencing, materials, and handoffs to roofing, siding, and window crews
- Conduct pre-install walkthroughs and post-install quality checks on all carpentry work
- Keep the job site clean, organized, and safe throughout the project
- Communicate respectfully with homeowners when on-site and represent Veterans Roofing professionally
What You Bring
- 4+ years of carpentry experience with a strong working knowledge of exterior construction
- Proven ability to read blueprints and lay out work independently
- Experience leading or directing other carpenters on a crew
- Deep familiarity with residential exterior carpentry — framing, trim, fascia, soffits, window and door installations
- Comfortable working at heights and on rooftops in all weather conditions
- Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs repeatedly and working on your feet all day
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to job sites across South Jersey
- Own a basic set of carpentry hand and power tools
- Veterans strongly encouraged to apply — your leadership and attention to detail translate directly
