Roofing Warranties

Manufacturer and workmanship warranties for residential roof replacement and repair.

Roofing warranties come in two types: manufacturer warranties that cover the roofing materials, and workmanship warranties that cover the installation labor. The strongest warranty coverage available to homeowners combines both — a manufacturer-backed warranty that covers materials and workmanship together, issued by the manufacturer rather than just the contractor. This level of coverage is typically only available when the roof is installed by a manufacturer-certified contractor using a complete roofing system.

Manufacturer Roofing Warranties

Roofing manufacturers like Owens Corning and TAMKO issue warranties on their roofing products. Standard material warranties cover manufacturing defects in the shingles or underlayment. Enhanced warranties — available only through certified contractors — may extend coverage to include non-prorated terms, wind coverage up to specific wind speeds, and workmanship coverage backed by the manufacturer. The specific warranty available depends on the product line, the system components used, and whether the installing contractor is certified by the manufacturer.

Workmanship Warranties

A workmanship warranty covers the labor involved in the installation. If a roof leaks because the flashing was installed incorrectly or shingles were improperly fastened, a workmanship warranty covers the cost of correcting the installation. Contractors may offer their own workmanship warranties, but the strongest coverage is a workmanship warranty backed by the manufacturer — meaning the manufacturer, not just the contractor, stands behind the installation quality.

Warranty Eligibility for Roofing

Enhanced roofing warranties are not automatic. They require the installation to be performed by a certified contractor using a complete system of the manufacturer's products, installed according to the manufacturer's specifications. Veterans Roofing's certifications — including Owens Corning Platinum Preferred, TAMKO Pro Platinum, and FORTIFIED — affect which warranty options are available for your project. The specific warranty terms depend on the products selected and the system configuration.

FORTIFIED and Warranties

FORTIFIED is a construction standard, not a warranty. A roof built to the FORTIFIED standard may qualify for insurance premium reductions through participating insurers, but it does not replace a manufacturer or workmanship warranty. Veterans Roofing's standard workmanship warranty applies to FORTIFIED installations, and manufacturer warranties apply to the products used.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

A manufacturer warranty covers the roofing materials — the shingles, underlayment, and other products. A workmanship warranty covers the installation labor. The strongest coverage combines both, with the manufacturer backing the workmanship warranty in addition to the material warranty.

Yes. Manufacturer certification is often a condition for enhanced warranty coverage. Non-certified contractors may not qualify the homeowner for non-prorated, workmanship-backed, or extended warranty options that certified contractors can offer.

It depends on the warranty. Standard warranties may be prorated, meaning coverage decreases over time. Enhanced warranties available through certified contractors may be non-prorated, meaning the coverage value remains constant for the full term. Ask your contractor which warranty tier you qualify for.
